Good Moanin’ Springfieldians,

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.

When he found one of great value, he went away sold everything he had and bought it.”

(Matthew 13:45-46 NIV)

We understand that Jesus is the pearl of great price.

We understand we, that would be you and me, are the merchant.

So when we find Jesus it costs man everything.

In Jesus we discover joy, peace, security, contentment, victory, worth, value, and eternal life.

We marvel at such a pearl and say, “Oh, I want that pearl.  How much does it cost?”

And the seller says, “It costs dearly.”

“Well, how much?”

“It’s very expensive.”

“Well, do you think I could buy it?”

“Of course, anybody can.”

“How can anybody buy it, if it’s so expensive?”

And the seller says, “It costs you everything you have.  Therefore anybody can have it, you just have to

give God everything.”

“Okay, I’ll buy it.”

“What do you have?”

“Well, I have $10,000 in the bank.”

“He’ll take that.  What else do you have?”

“Well, not much.  I’ve got a few dollars in my pocket.
“How much?”

“Well, let me see.  20, 40, 50 100, $120.”

“Okay, that’s fine.  What else do you have?”

“I don’t have anything else, that’s all.”

“Where do you live?”

“Well. I live in my house.”

“Oh, He’ll take that too.”

“You mean my house?  If He has my house I suppose I’ll have to sleep in the garage.”

“Oh, He’d like that also.”

“Well, if I give Him my garage, I’ll have to sleep in my car.”

“How many cars do you have?”

“Good, He’ll take both of them.”

“Wow!  You’ve taken everything.  I have nothing left.

“Oh, are you alone in the world?”

“Well, no I have my wife and two kids.”
“Oh, He’ll take those too.”

“You mean, He’s going to take my wife and two kids?  I have nothing else. I’m alone.”

“Oh, He’ll take that too.
Have you really given everything, I mean everything, to Him?

He is the Pearl of Great Price are you ready to give your all to experience His all?

Our District Superintendent, Dr. Jim Kraemer, has called for a time of prayer & fasting leading up to our District Assembly. This is what he’s asking us to do:

  1. Take time this week to spend quality time in prayer, fasting, and intense seeking of God’s presence and power in your personal life.  See if there are areas you need to repent of so you can move forward with HIS power being unleashed in your life.  Spend some time in 2 Corinthians 10:1–6, reminding us “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.  On the contrary, we have DIVINE POWER TO DEMOLISH STORNGHOLDS” (2 Corinthians 10:4).
  2. Prepare to mobilize a strong force of God within your church.  I am calling the District to a Corporate FAST, leading into District Assembly.  “Blow the trumpet of Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly.  Gather the people, consecrate the assembly; bring together the elders, gather the children, those nursing at the breast.  Let the bridegroom leave his room and the bride her chamber.  Let the priests, who minister before the Lord, weep between the temple porch and the altar.  Let them say, ‘Spare your people O Lord.  Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations.  Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’” (Joel 2:15–17).  Teach them and allow them to fast however God leads.  Some may do a total fast.  Some may fast one meal a day – or one day a week.  Let God lead.
  3. During this time ask God to reveal if there are any unconfessed sins of the church.  There may be unconfessed sins from the past or present on how things were dealt with, how a pastor was treated, broken relationships, ungodly attitudes, divisions, unresolved issues, – or whatever sin God may remind us of.  Take your church through a time of corporate repentance.  (See 2 Chronicles 15 and Joel 1–2)
  4. On Thursday, July 5th we will begin our District Conventions / Assembly with a service to unleash God’s presence and power across our District Churches.  I will be preaching and we will acknowledge a time of corporate repentance and seeking God as the Illinois District Church of The Nazarene. I believe it will be a great moment for our District Church Family.

Have you started inviting kids to our VBS?

Sunday, July 15th – Thursday, July 19th from 6:15-8:30pm
