On November 2 & 3, Springfield First Church of the Nazarene held a celebration event to commemorate and celebrate 100 years of history as an organized congregation. Here is brief recap of the weekend!
On Saturday, Connect Groups led various service projects in the community. Inclement weather cancelled a few, but a great turn-out of volunteers energized the weekend. Projects included clean-up of Chatham bike trail, preparing soup with TItan Fuel, assisting Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and children preparing/delivering cards to Brenden Gardens. Then during the afternoon, several former teens gathered to reunite and share memories.
Saturday evening, around 180 friends piled into the gymnasium for the Celebration Banquet. The gym was seasonally adorned with decorations and the tables precisely set. After a brief welcome and prayer, everyone shared in the banquet dinner consisting of Pork Chops with apples and onions, baked pasta, parsley potatoes, Parmesan green beans, dinner rolls and homemade pies. Following dinner, a program was held featuring a reading of the church history by Abby Heppe, personal testimonies from select individuals, and a concert by Brian Arner.
Sunday morning opened with a morning mingle time during the Sunday School hour where friends gathered and shared fellowship over coffee, muffins and scones. Following the morning mingle, the Celebration Service was held. A time of worship through music, video and select testimonies was followed by more special music by Brian Arner and then the morning message delivered by our new District Superintendent Terry Armstrong. It was truly a wonderful weekend of honoring our past, embracing the present and setting the vision to forge into the future for the next 100 years.
